Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) & Microneedling

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) can be used topically and/or injected during microneedling treatments to soften wrinkles and brighten skin, injected in the scalp to stimulate hair growth, or injected in the joint to naturally stimulate the healing process.

WHAT IS PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a newer modality of treatment for the management of many skin conditions, and injuries. The PRP is obtained from drawing a small amount of your own blood, from which the plasma is separated to concentrate the PRP and growth factors. Typically, PRP contains 4-8 times the concentration of platelets and healing factors than whole blood does, making it an ideal cosmetic and medical treatment.

The high level of platelets and growth factors found in PRP can be used in several ways to improve your skin, hair, or area of injury. This treatment is often used by professional athletes who need to recover and heal as quickly as possible. To assist your body in the uptake of PRP, we use it topically with microneedling or inject it directly into the skin, scalp, and joints.

PRP is effective in improving wrinkles, skin texture, and hair loss. The natural increase in collagen will improve both the overall skin quality and texture making your skin appear glowing and youthful.

MICRONEEDLING

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling is a non-surgical, minimally invasive skin rejuvenation therapy using a hand held microneedling medical device. The Microneedling technique creates small channels in the skin, which causes a controlled injury. These channels stimulate elastin and collagen production to help tighten and lift the skin. Microneedling aids in reducing fine wrinkles, stretchmarks, and many types of scars.

WHAT WE DO

Once you arrive at our office we will apply numbing cream to your face to minimize any discomfort during your treatment. Next, we prep your skin and start microneedling using our signature serum to deliver potent ingredients deep into the microchannels of the skin

WHAT TO EXPECT

After the procedure, our provider will discuss skin after-care. On average it takes about 2-4 days for the skin to recover and a full week to see the results.

PRP MICRONEEDLING

WHAT WE DO

The process begins with a blood draw from your arm which is then spun for 15 minutes in a centrifuge to separate the PRP. While you wait, we apply numbing cream to your face to minimize any discomfort during your treatment. Next, we prep and clean your skin and start microneedling using topical PRP.

The appropriate depth for the microneedling will then be determined based on your skin type and condition. Microneedling creates micro channels in the skin,  which can effectively carry the PRP into the skin and nourish the cells.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Since PRP speeds healing, you can expect a faster recovery than a basic microneedling treatment. Redness is expected to last a few days. After your treatment, you will start noticing results, which will continue to improve over the next few days and weeks. Your body’s collagen production is now stimulated, and you should see the quality and texture of your skin continue to improve for up to six months.

MICRONEEDLING : BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT

Things to know before your procedure are the following:

  • No sunscreen or makeup

  • No fasting is required for the PRP blood draw. So make sure you are well hydrated and haven’t skipped a meal. If you think you need more hydration we have just the drip you need.

  • Stop using retinoids for 72 hours before procedure to minimize sensitivity.

  • Special precautions are required in individuals with low platelet count, bleeding disorders, those on blood thinning medications or anti-inflammatory medications.

  • Special precautions are required individuals allergic to local anesthetic agents

  • Special precautions in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

MICRONEEDLING : AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

  • Avoid Alpha and Beta hydroxyl acids, retinols for 48 hrs. avoid any product with  “active ingredient”

  • Avoid direct sunlight for 48 hours and use SPF 50 for 7 days after treatment

  • No exercising or strenuous activity

  • Stay hydrated

  • Wash face with lukewarm water and use one of our cleansers/lotions.

  • No makeup for 24 hours

PRP MICRONEEDLING WITH INJECTIONS

PRP MICRONEEDLING WITH INJECTIONS TREATMENT

We recommend adding PRP injections to your microneedling session for an added “glow factor”. During your microneedling session, we inject some of your PRP into areas of the face where you want brightening and rejuvenation. By directly injecting the PRP into selected areas it promotes the formation of new collagen, fatty tissue and blood vessels, which results in rejuvenated and younger-looking skin.

PRP HAIR RESTORATION

WHAT IS PRP HAIR RESTORATION?

Unlike other types of hair restoration procedures, PRP actually stimulates the dormant or inactive hair follicles to start growing again. Platelets and growth factors stimulate stem cells in the environment of the hair follicle, for stronger and more robust hair growth for both men and women.

WHAT WE DO:

This process also begins with a blood draw from your arm which is then spun for 15 minutes in a centrifuge to separate the PRP. While you wait, we apply a topical numbing cream to your scalp to minimize any discomfort during your treatment. Next, using a fine needle, we inject PRP into your scalp in areas where hair loss is most evident.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Most patients experience minimal discomfort after PRP hair restoration injections. There may be mild swelling of the injected areas for one or two days after the procedure. Avoid intense physical activity until the swelling has completely subsided. You may return to normal hair washing the same day of treatment. PRP hair restoration typically requires a series of 4 initial treatments, spaced approximately 6 weeks apart. After results are obtained, follow-up treatments twice a year will be needed for maintenance.

PRP JOINT INJECTIONS

WHAT WE DO

Our Physician performs PRP joint injections for reducing pain and inflammation in the joints. Areas of focus include: the knee, elbow, and shoulder joints. PRP joint injections are a safe, less invasive alternative to conventional treatments, including surgery. Unlike steroids and traditional painkillers that temporarily treat pain, PRP therapy can be a curative treatment that addresses the root of the problem for full recovery and enhanced mobility.

Research shows that PRP injections are proven to aid in the repair of torn ligaments or tendons in the joints, and reduce inflammation and reverse degenerative processes in arthritic conditions. This is a procedure commonly used for athletes.

We draw blood from your arm and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the PRP. Then we inject local anesthesia to the area of pain or injury in preparation for the procedure. Next, we inject the joint with PRP.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During the injections, patients may feel pressure in their joint. You can expect swelling, tenderness, and/or bruising in the area injected for a few days. Cold compresses and pain medication may aid in the recovery process. Anti-inflammatory medications are to be avoided for up to 48 hours after the injection, as they can affect the platelet function. We recommend 1-3 sessions done once every 4 weeks.
